Frequently Asked Questions

What is permanent jewelry?

Permanent jewelry is a bracelet, necklace, or anklet that is welded together rather than being secured by a hook or clasp. The process is simple, fast and safe. First, you’ll pick out the chain you want and any customizations like links or charms. We will measure out a length of chain to fit your wrist, ankle, or neck, depending on what type of jewelry you are getting. Protecting your skin with a piece of leather, we will use a small jewelry welder to quickly weld the ends of the chain together. You will likely hear a ‘zap’ and see a flash of light, but you won’t feel anything. The welding tools will not touch your skin at any point.

How can I get a permanent bracelet?

There are three ways to get Spark Studio permanent jewelry:

Pop Ups - We frequently travel around setting up temporary shops in salons, boutiques, coffee shops, furniture stores...anyone willing to host a crowd. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook to see where we pop up, or check our website to see our upcoming pop-up schedule. If you are a retailer and would like to host we will give 10% off to you and all your employees. We are willing to travel to most parts of central New York for retail pop-ups.

Private Parties - If you can gather at least 8 friends who want permanent jewelry, live within 30 minutes of Syracuse, we will be happy to bring our store to you. We require a $50 deposit that goes towards your purchase. Call us to schedule a date. If you live outside our location areas, we charge $25/hr of travel after the first 30 minutes.

Scheduled Appointments - Our locations take appointments most days. Book an appointment here on our website.

What materials do you use?

We use sterling silver or 14k gold filled chains and charms. The only exception is the black chains, which are stainless steel.

Can I bring a friend to my appointment?

Yes. It takes 5-10 minutes to weld a permanent bracelet, so in one scheduled appointment we can do at least two bracelets, doesn't matter if that is on one or two people, we're happy to squeeze everyone in. If you have more than that, book several appointments.

Can I go through airport security with permanent jewelry? What about an MRI?

We cannot make any guarantees, but TSA does not typically ask people to remove jewelry. Our gold filled and sterling silver jewelry is not magnetic, but some medical providers may still ask you to remove it. If that happens, just cut it at the connecting piece and save your chain in a safe place. We can re-weld it when you're ready to put it back on at no charge.

What happens if my permanent jewelry breaks or I need to remove it?

The dainty gold and silver chains are welded to last a long time, but just because it is made without a clasp it does not mean it is indestructible. If you happen to break it, we are happy to re-weld at no cost, BUT you have to have your jewelry. Just like any jewelry store, we do not replace lost product. To repair your jewelry book a re-weld appointment and we can repair it as long as the chain is still usable.

If you need to remove it for any reason, cut it on the connecting ring and save the chain in a safe place. When you are ready to wear it again, book a re-weld appointment, also free.

Is permanent jewelry really permanent?

Some people also worry about committing to a "permanent" piece of jewelry, but you can always change your mind later. At any point in the future, you can remove your permanent jewelry and convert it to a traditional piece by adding a clasp.

How do I care for my permanent jewelry?

Permanent jewelry is not indestructible and can break if it gets snagged on something sharp. It's suitable for everyday activities like showering, swimming, and light workouts. It can be damaged by hitting or bumping into things, so care should be taken to protect it. Sterling silver naturally can tarnish, but can easily be cleaned with a polishing cloth. 14K gold-filled jewelry can be cleaned with a mild dish soap and soft toothbrush
